Physiatrist/Osteopathic Medicine
Dr. Bergsten has a deep understanding of the field of medicine and a passion for medical education. He currently works with the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and has been there since October 2021.
Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is currently affiliated with VA hospital in Hampton, Virginia.
In addition to his medical expertise, he is also skilled in communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal leadership. These skills make him a valuable asset to any educational institution, as he is able to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, and patients, and lead in a way that promotes collaboration and mutual respect.
Pertaining to his educational pursuits, he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004, before completing his residency in physical medicine & rehabilitation at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2008.
As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation by the American Osteopathic Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, which is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the treatment of patients with physical impairments or disabilities.
Physical medicine and rehabilitation, also known as physiatry, is a branch of medicine that aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities. Physiatrists treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.
