Dr. Laura Barnes DVM, DACVO has been recognized by the International Association of Who’s Who as one of ‘America’s Most Influential Veterinarians’.

Dr. Laura Barnes, a highly experienced and board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist, has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 15 years. With a passion for the complexities of animal eye care, she specializes in advanced procedures such as cataract surgery, eyelid reconstruction, and corneal surgery.

Her expertise extends across a wide spectrum of eye conditions in dogs and cats, including treating corneal ulcers, trauma, lacerations, glaucoma, feline herpes virus, and eyelid abnormalities. Dr. Barnes is also skilled in cataract removal with lens replacement and repairing corneal perforations. Working closely with specialists in internal medicine, emergency care, oncology, and surgery, she ensures her patients receive holistic and high-quality care.

Dr. Barnes grew up in California and holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a minor in Chemistry from California Polytechnic State University, where she graduated in 2001. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005, followed by a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Saskatchewan Western College of Veterinary Medicine. She further honed her specialty through an ophthalmology internship and residency in comparative veterinary ophthalmology at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.

A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology and an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Barnes has dedicated nearly two decades to treating animals’ eye disorders and helping their owners understand complex ocular conditions and treatment options. Her research interests include photodynamic therapy for managing squamous cell carcinoma in horses.
