Dr. Paul L. Berenbaum, M.D., FACP, FACG, FAGA, has been practicing Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the greater Philadelphia area for over twenty-five years. He is best known for his incredible career as a Distinguished Gastroenterologist and for his contributions to the field of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Berenbaum has a broad educational background. His academic career began at Brooklyn College, City University of New York, where through an accelerated three-year program, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. Then in 1972, he achieved his medical degree at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia. To further his medical training, Dr. Berenbaum completed an internship and residency at both Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Mount Sinai in New York, before pursuing a postdoctoral Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Yale – New Haven Hospital.

For the last 25 years, Dr. Berenbaum has been treating patients in the greater Philadelphia area within Gastroenterology and Hepatology. At his private practice in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, he specializes in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating digestive disorders and issues of the stomach, esophagus, colon, liver, small intestine, biliary system, and pancreas.

Dr. Berenbaum is as an expert in the field of irritable bowel syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hepatitis B and C, inflammatory bowel disease, as well as GI therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy.

Alongside his day-to-day role at his private practice, Dr. Berenbaum has affiliations with many medical centers and hospitals, including, Hahnemann University Hospital, Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health and Holy Redeemer Hospital. Additionally, he’s the Clinical Associate Professor at Drexel University College of Medicine. A valued contributor to many leading studies, Dr. Berenbaum has presented countless medical lectures and is also a published author in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology.

As a result of his medical training, knowledge and experience, Dr. Berenbaum is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a non-profit group led by physicians to achieve exceptional care and higher standards in Internal Medicine.

To maintain his professional competence, Dr. Berenbaum is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (FAGA) and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP). On top of this, he holds active memberships with the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Society of Gastroenterology, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Delaware Valley Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

His accolades include receiving a featured article on Issuewire.com and most recently, being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Distinguished Gastroenterologist for his work in the Gastroenterology field.

When he’s not treating patients, he enjoys reading and spending time with his wife Cathy and daughters Kimberly, Lauren, and Morgan. Dr. Berenbaum, who speaks multiple languages, including English, French, Yiddish, Spanish, and Hebrew, also donates and supports the American Cancer Society and the Hematology Association.
