Dr. Jessica K. Laursen, M.D., was born and grew up in San Diego. Now an acclaimed medical professional, Dr. Laursen began her academic endeavors at the Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, where she successfully graduated with her degree.
After graduation, Dr. Laursen had the opportunity to undertake an internship in internal medicine at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. Following on from this achievement, Dr. Laursen went on to complete her residency in ophthalmology at the Tulane University School of Medicine. Remaining totally focused on her future career path, Dr. Laursen’s next step involved completing her fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. Dr. Laurens is also proudly board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
For the past 9 years, Dr. Laursen has been dedicated to treating patients as a pediatric ophthalmologist within the Department of Ophthalmology at Kaiser Permanente. Alongside this role, Dr. Laursen is a Clinical Professor in the Family Medicine Residency of Kaiser San Diego, where she has developed the Ophthalmology rotation curriculum and has been the head of rotation for the past 8 years. Keen to reach out to as many patients as possible, Dr. Laursen is associated with Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Center where she also sees and treats patients.
In her daily role, Dr. Laursen demonstrates unrivaled expertise and experience, paying particular focus to the treatment of younger children. She treats conditions affecting their eyes such as Strabismus which might be more commonly referred to as crossed eyes. Dr. Laursen is acknowledged by patients, families, and professionals for her unique approach; she always strives to create a friendly and comfortable atmosphere for her patients during treatments.
Having completed her extensive medical education and training, Dr. Laursen is honored to have had the opportunity to work under the mentorship of many acclaimed professionals within the industry, paying a particular mention to Dr. Candice Collins whom she attributes her success to. Over the course of her illustrious career, Dr. Laursen had been proud to have received numerous awards. These include being named four times in Top Doctor San Diego Magazine and acknowledged as California’s Top Ophthalmologist 2020.
In her rare free moments, Dr. Laursen enjoys spending time with her family as well as keeping
active. She particularly enjoys activities such as flying trapeze, hiking, camping, going to the
beach, horseback riding and snowboarding.
